Saturday, September 25, was a dry, breezy day. Shenandoah County had already seen several wind-driven field fires in the last several days, when another field fire broke out along Helsley Road, west of Edinburg.

The fire, in a corn field, jumped the paved road and was spreading quickly before units got the upper hand on it. About 5 acres burned. No buildings were threatened.

Units responded from Edinburg Volunteer Fire Company, Conicville Volunteer Fire Department, Woodstock Fire Department, Mount Jackson Rescue and Fire Company, Virginia Department of Forestry, and Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue.
