A note to volunteer applicants from the SCFR Chief

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in membership at one of Shenandoah County's volunteer fire and rescue companies.

Shenandoah County depends on active members and support staffing to serve the community.

We are looking for individuals who can do a strenuous job. It requires a lot of time and training.

We are looking for individuals who are willing to dedicate some time for the betterment of the community and the agency they wish to join. You will be entering a very rewarding, yet touching career that allows for personal growth and experiences.

You will play a visible role in the community. We regularly interact with the public in emergency and non-emergency situations. The community places their trust in the fire and rescue departments by granting us access to their person, personal possessions, and property when responding to fire protection and medical emergencies.

You and other members are given the responsibility of maintaining buidlings and valuable equipment. It is for these reasons a background and DMV license check is performed on all applicants. Anyone convicted of abuse, sexual crimes or felonies is not eligible for membership.

Once the background check has been completed, your application will be forwarded to the company to which you have applied. Someone from that company will contact you concerning the membership process.

Again, we appreciate your interest in supporting Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue Volunteer Services and hope you will apply for membership. If you have any questions, please call the Fire and Rescue office at 459-6167.
